Responsibilities Of Chemical Sales Representative

By Walter Brown

To meet the sales quota per day and per month, the department has to use past data, marketing, and forecasting in order to implement strategies to sell their products. They measure and calculate these based on those three factors. They also want the public and big clients to like their products. To do so, they hire chemical sales representatives.

Education and knowledge are two important factors that a sales representative need. It is due to those scientific details that are naturally in their chemical products for sale. A bachelor degree is usually the company preference in their applicants. Though, having a chemical engineering degree or background will increase their chances of getting hired.

Speaking of, training in this field is quite a challenge for they have to be equipped to answer customer questions. This usually last quite longer than typical office jobs. That is because they need to rotate around for a time from offices and plants. This ensures that they get to learn the necessary phases in manufacturing, installing, and distribution of the products.

Sales representatives have to embody the personalities that the company looks for in employees. Interpersonal is the first so they can engage and work really well with different personality customers. After that, they are able to cultivate customer service skills that listen and hear what the customers have to say. Stamina is also needed here because they will be exposed to running around and heavy lifting.

In simple terms, their job description is to sell chemical products by establishing contact to customers and explain product details at a negotiated price. Yet the specifics are more detailed than that. They first need to identify potential customers that are willing and open to discussions. They can observe them at trade shows and conferences, and by recommendation from existing clients.

Through that discussion, products are introduced in order to select ones that addresses their needs. It is their duty to recommend which products they are as well as telling them its usage. Furthermore, limits are also told for each one of them. This emphasizes the product features of each.

Importance is attached to answering the questions of customers. This is where they can use their knowledge about product availability, usage, price, and details. Here, their skills in negotiation will be tested in order to have price agreement which is favorable to both parties. Showing these two will have customers assured that they understand the products they are selling.

Senior colleagues can also help them in sales and information strategies used in the markets. This helps assuage concerns and get customers convinced in buying. When they do, they are responsible of contract preparation and product delivery. Reports are submitted to the department and upper management in order to let them see their progress. Report analysis on factors such as work plan, call reports, and sale territories are the contents of their submissions.

After a time, they have to do follow up calls and visits on the client. This determines their satisfaction on the products causing them to order again. Having satisfied customers will turn them into long term ones that are loyal to them. It will also improve the company and customer relationship they have.
