By Donald Peterson

When the term ID theft is used, the most frequent image that comes to mind is the stealing of personal information from an individual seated alone in a coffee shop with a hoodie shielding their face. However, it goes beyond the individual and can affect the working environment as well. Therefore, it s especially important to consider Zander identity theft solutions against such cyber attacks as they could mean the end of a business.

With the use of the internet being commonplace in the 21st century, it s often quite easy to forget that everybody who is on the internet does not have the intention to educate, socialise or entertain like most people do. But rather, use the identification of other people to open credit cards or illicit funds illegally from public institutions under your name or even worse.

Education is key in knowing what to do and not to do. This also holds true for for others, especially members of your family who might not be aware of the dangers of ID thieves. Young children and the elderly are at the greatest risk of being exploited by those who commit ID stealing. So it is best to teach them or make them aware of what to do and not to do when they re on the internet and if there is really a need to do something such as buy goods on online stores to call you for assistance or at the very least provide a list of reputable websites and retailers they can use.

The problem with identity thieves is that it can be done in a number of ways. Mainly but not limited to, robbery, which involves the stealing of people s personal belongings, phone scams, whereby criminals call and pretend to be a bank or other professional institution requiring personal details, oftentimes to verify something on their end but in actuality it is all a lie developed for you to give away your personal details, and phishing, where the use of harmful emails are sent and when opened comb through a person s device for personal details such as social security numbers and bank statements.

But it does not only affect you but those closest to you as the standard of living changes. Even if as a responsible adult you are able to take measures to protect yourself from possible cases of ID theft, those closest to you need to be educated as well. Children and the elderly are the most susceptible to becoming victims because they are none the wiser.

With the bottom line being how many dollars are brought in at the end of the month, there often isn t any time devoted to securing the financial and personal data of employees, customers and third party service providers. This task, however, has been made easier with the use of digital databases storing such sensitive information. But have also made databases a target for hackers. Laws like the ones implemented in California in 2002, require companies to notify customers when their personal information has been lost, stolen or compromised in an effort to minimise the damages of it.

Avoid the temptation of using free WIFi as those networks are often unprotected and set the perfect conditions for it to happen.

Identification fraud can happen anywhere, anytime and any place including the workplace. Employees are undoubtedly going to become suspect number one even when that is not the case. It s therefore, of paramount importance to put measures in place to protect a company from corrupt employees or outside attacks and serve its customers due diligence.
