The Benefits Of Prefab Buildings

By Gary Stone

Prefab construction involves assembling various components of structures at a manufacturing site and then having them transported to construction locations. It is a method that some people perceive as low end and meant for mass production. This is not however true. Actually, the inverse is true. Prefab buildings are over time becoming common and with improved quality. Despite the many misconceptions, the buildings come with many benefits.

They are Eco-friendly. This kind of construction is recommended because it is energy efficient and sustainable. With traditional modes of construction, extra materials will be required, which leads to increase in wastes. Because prefabricated assemblies are done in factories, any extra material can be recycled. This is better than having wastes sent to landfills from traditional construction sites. Besides, the controlled atmosphere of factories will allow for accurate and tighter joints. There will be better wall insulation and increased efficiency.

One of the major advantages of the structures is that they come with considerable financial savings. Despite the fact that custom made pieces might appear costly, that is not the case with prefab options. The construction targets different budgets and price points that will in the end create affordable options. The manufacturers receive huge discounts from their suppliers of materials. The discounts trickle down all the way to the cost of project construction. It will also ensure that you do not get to have staff who are not productive.

Another key benefit is the flexibility. The buildings are able to be easily assembled before being relocated to different sites. This significantly reduces the demand for raw materials. In addition to that, it does minimize expended energy and reduces overall time. There will also be flexibility as regards designing of the structures, which allows for limitless possibilities. The structures can be used in different spaces, meaning they are able to blend with different types of buildings.

Time taken for the construction will be shorter. In many instances, the work will take less than half the time which is spent with ordinary construction. This is because of the fact that there is upfront planning as well as getting rid of scheduling delays. Weather related factors are also eliminated. You are able to do many projects at the same time.

There will be reduced site disruption. This is because most of the components are completed from the factory. This means there will be less traffic involving trucks and material supplies around the site. This will limit disruption that is experienced with traditional sites that suffer pollution, waste problems and noise. When the work starts, there will not be any unnecessary disruptions.

Quality of the work is usually consistent. Since construction is done under controlled environments, you get to have uniform quality. Standards followed will also be uniform. The construction that is done on ordinary sites is dependent on skill level of contractors doing that work. With prefabrication, each of the sub assemblies is built professionally according to laid down procedures. The procedure has multiple checks.

One shortcoming of prefabs is that design options could be limited. Depend on the company that one chooses, there might be limited material and layout options. Flexibility will be less.
