Easy Tips And Tricks For Paraffin Removal

By Jerry Olson

Although there are different waxes, paraffin is mostly used in your household. Candle stains can be found just about anywhere, and they are not so easy to get rid off. Especially when it comes to textiles and some hard to reach areas. When it comes to paraffin removal, you have to have substances that can effectively dissolve it, and they are known as non-polar solvents. Xylene and toluene are such non-polar solvents.

When it comes to so called non-polar solvents, petrol is also one of them. Nevertheless, petrol can also cause other problems, or even ruin your clothes, and it smells really bad. Acetone won't help you, because it cannot dissolve paraffin. It might be a solvent, but it's not a non-polar one.

Depending on the area you want to clean, there are several simple methods that can be useful in your household. If your clothes has stains, the first thing you should do is to put it in your freezer for a while. Once frozen, the wax will crack, allowing you to remove the majority of it scrubbing with one plastic knife, for example.

Now it's time to melt down the residues. Place a few paper towels on the stain and melt paraffin using a warm iron. Repeat this procedure until you are satisfied. If there is anything left, it can be removed with warm water ans soap. Harder stains will disappear after cleaning them with xylene or some other solvent.

Carpet and other textiles that cannot be simply placed in the freezer can also be cleaned using the same process. Ice packs will do. If you don't have them, you probably have something frozen in your freezer that can be used for this purpose. Freeze the wax, remove what you can using spatula or something. Depending on stained are, use paper towels and an iron, or your hair dryer. Color stains remove using carpet cleaning products.

If you want to clean your furniture or even marble surfaces, one simple method might be highly useful. First, you have to scrub away as much as you can. Use plastic knife or something similar that won't cause damages. Apply generous quantity of warm vegetable oil on it, let it rest for a while, and then use an old toothbrush to mix it all together and brush everything away. Wash in warm soap water.

Glass, camera lenses and similar objects can also be successfully cleaned. Scrap what you can, and then you can decide to use freezing method or the one with vegetable oil. Use your hair dryer to melt down all eventual residues. Wipe everything off and wash the surfaces with warm water and soap.

In the end, using hair wax on your skin can also leave residues. Although they can be removed using warm water and soap, it is so much easier to remove them with warm olive oil first. Use some soft cloth and apply a generous quantity of olive oil on your skin. Let it there for a few seconds, and gently remove all wax residues.
