The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Clean Fracking Technology

By Linda Schmidt

Hydraulic fracturing is better known as fracking is a drilling method used for drilling both oil and natural gases from deep underground. Many argue that it is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective method while others see it as a major contribution to contamination in the world due to pollution level release to the atmosphere. The article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of clean fracking technology.

It boosts the economy. Think of it this way, when a country can drill their own oil and natural gases; they are able to save the amount that they would have used in importing. They will also be able to export to other countries and therefore make a fortune. There will be no more dependence on other countries for these products and in return they gain in their GDP and have food security by purchasing more food for the residents.

Emission of carbon gas is one of the causes of the beauty of the environment fading away. Fracking does not cause the emission of carbon gases into the air. If there is enough oil and natural gas, it can sustain the country for as long as needed or at least until people are able to find a way to benefit directly from the sun and the wind.

The rate of crime highly decreases due to many people getting employed. This is because it is a great source of employment. An oil discovery translates into employment opportunities for a huge number of people. This improves the lives of not only individuals but also whole families. As earlier mentioned, crime goes down as people have a new way of providing for themselves.

Like everything else, fracking also does have a negative side to it. As much as it has done a lot of good, there are some bad things. One of them is harm to people and the environment. Driving tankers is a source of employment, but if one were to explode amidst traffic, a lot of lives would be lost. The drilling noise may also affect people living around.

Waste of water. A single drilling session takes up gallons and gallons of water. This is highly inconvenient, especially some of the parts of the country are experiencing drought. The water being used in drilling could go a long way in curbing the drought people have to deal with. So as much as it is a friendly method, it uses up too much water.

There is the possibility of water contamination. When drilling a water pipe may accidentally be hit. It may cause for chemicals to go into the water, therefore, causing the disease to the surrounding community. There have also been complaints by homeowners about discovering traces of chemicals in their water pipes which may have led to serious illness.

Considering that this job includes encountering all kinds of chemicals, the workers are likely to fall ill easily. Some companies neglect to enforce safety measures. Some workers also ignore the protective gear. For example, one may neglect to wear gumboots because they are hard to move around in or they just do not feel up to it.
